Akhil joined Cleveland Clinic Ventures as a Partner leading Life Science investments.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Ventures, Akhil was a Partner at Artiman Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm with over $1.2 billion under management. While at Artiman, he led investments in early-stage start-up companies with an interest towards medical technology and served on the boards of Cellmax Life, Oncostem Diagnostics, Slive, ApplyBoard, DMS Networks, and HomeUnion. In addition to his Board of Director roles, he also served as CEO of Slive, an Artiman portfolio company. Prior to joining Artiman, Akhil served in administrative roles at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio as Medical Director of the hospital’s regional transfer program and Chairman of the Emergency Department and Level II Trauma Center. He was also CEO of Canton Aultman Emergency Physicians, a professional services firm that provides physicians, mid-level providers, and coding expertise to multiple hospitals and urgent care centers. In this same time period, Akhil participated at the local, state, and national levels of governing institutions within emergency medicine, healthcare quality, information technology, managed care, and emergency medical services.

Akhil is Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He continues to practice medicine on a part-time basis where he remains connected to clinical care, patients, and physicians. Akhil graduated from the combined accelerated B.S./M.D. program at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Summa Health System and holds a M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

As a Partner with Cleveland Clinic Ventures, Dave brings over 20 years of experience as a venture investor, board member, and advisor to healthcare entrepreneurs.  Dave’s areas of focus include Health IT and IT-Enabled Medical Device opportunities.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Ventures, Dave was a Managing Partner at Psilos Group Managers, a leading healthcare investment firm with approximately $600 million under management.  He has a successful track record of venture and growth equity stage investments in Health IT, healthcare services, and medical technology companies -- including extensive Board level experience with value-added engagement in the areas of strategy, business growth, product development, sales improvement, organizational development, capital formation and M&A/exits.  In addition to his investing roles, Dave’s background includes various senior operating roles at Caregiver Services, Inc. (a Psilos portfolio company) during periods of transformational growth at the company.  Earlier in his career, Dave was an investment banker at Wasserstein Perella & Co. as a member of the firm’s Healthcare Group.  Dave earned an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where he received the faculty award for academic excellence (top 10% of class).  He holds another masters degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Government and International Relations from Cornell University, where he graduated magna cum laude.

As Managing Director of Cleveland Clinic Ventures (CCV), Jack works closely with Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI) translating intellectual property (IP) from Cleveland Clinic into high performing startup companies.  The Ventures team includes; financial, legal, and HR shared resources, a team of Venture Directors, Executives in Residence and Senior Medical Advisor, Operations, and a Venture Associate and Venture Fellow.  Since 2000, Cleveland Clinic has launched nearly 80 startup companies which have returned an average of $11 million dollars annually to advance the Clinic’s mission.

Before joining the CCV team in 2016, Jack was responsible for managing the ventures team at the University of Michigan’s Office of Technology Transfer.  Jack joined the University of Michigan in 2011 and helped launch more than 50 startup companies, managed a portfolio of 300 companies, the Venture Accelerator (14,000 square foot wet lab and office space), Mentors in Residence Program, and Business Formation Team. Companies from the Michigan Ventures portfolio raised billions of dollars over the years, $700 Million in Venture Capital between 2011 and 2016 alone.

Jack leverages his prior experience at 7 venture capital-backed companies, most of which successfully exited through acquisition.  Jack has a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Management from Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Senior Director, Emerging Business, Cleveland Clinic Ventures


Mark Stovsky MD MBA FACS currently serves as Senior Director - Emerging Business at Cleveland Clinic Ventures as well as a Staff Urologist in the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute and an Associate Professor of Surgery (Urology) in the CCF Lerner School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic and Innovations, Mark was an attending urologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center where he served as Director of the Men's Health and Genitourinary Stone Center and Urology Institute Quality Officer as well as Chief of the Division of Urology and Medical Director for Urology Services at UH Richmond Medical Center. Dr. Stovsky’s areas of clinical expertise including BPH/male voiding dysfunction, prostate cancer and urinary tract stone disease.  Dr. Stovsky completed his urology residency training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Stovsky's primary research interest is in the area of diagnostic biomarkers for cancer and other diseases and medical economics.

Dr. Stovsky has an extensive business background in new venture development as well as private equity and life science consulting including transaction analysis, due diligence and predictive modeling for health care & biotechnology businesses. Mark’s private equity experience includes transaction analysis for early stage, acquisition and add-on ventures. Dr. Stovsky is CMO of CCF portfolio company Cleveland Diagnostics, Inc. and the CCF board of directors’ representative to eHealth Ventures USA.

Mark currently serves on the board of the American Urological Association (AUA) North Central Section. Dr. Stovsky is currently President Elect of the NCS. He is Past President of the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Cleveland Urological Society and the Ohio Urological Society as well as a past board member of UROPAC and the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland/Northern Ohio Medical Association. Dr. Stovsky completed the AUA Leadership Program (2012 - 2013 class). He has also been honored with selection to Castle Connolly Top Doctors (2016 - present) and Best Doctors in America (2010 - present).

Mark also serves on the board of American Friends of Magen David Adom (Cleveland Chapter - Israel Red Cross).

Dr. Stovsky earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern. He also holds an MBA (strategic planning) from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma.

Shripal joins CC Ventures as Partner, focusing on Medical Device investments.

Shripal joins us with significant experience in investment banking, corporate development and equity investments in medical devices.

He joins us from Philips, where, in his corporate development capacity, he has evaluated several acquisitions of and investments in medical devices companies, having helped Philips with the $1.2B acquisition of Volcano Corp. and $2.2B acquisition of Spectranetics. Prior to joining Philips, Shripal was a Vice President with Credit Suisse in their Healthcare Investment Banking team, where he assisted clients with M&A, IPOs and financings.

Shripal earned an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He also holds a Masters and Bachelors in Mathematics and Computational Sciences from the Indian Institutes of Technology.

Business Associate, Ventures

As an Associate with Cleveland Clinic Ventures (CCV), Zach works with the CCV team to create, develop, and finance startup companies leveraging the ideas, expertise, and resources of Cleveland Clinic. Zach supports all aspects of the Cleveland Clinic Ventures investment program with an emphasis on the analysis of potential Cleveland Clinic startup companies, and performance of current Cleveland Clinic startup portfolio companies. CCV works closely with Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI) to translate intellectual property from Cleveland Clinic into high performing startup companies, supporting the Clinic’s mission and maximizing returns to inventors and CCF at the same time.
 
Prior to joining the CCV team in 2017, Zach was the Director of Technical Operations at Efferent Labs, an early-stage medical technology company headquartered in Buffalo, NY. Zach worked in an interdisciplinary role with Efferent management and its science and engineering teams. In Zach’s time at Efferent Labs, the company was awarded numerous grants, raised a seed round of funding, established a partnership with a billion dollar global drug discovery company, and made significant R&D advances.
 
Previously, Zach worked at Z80 Labs, a startup incubator and seed-stage fund in Western New York, where he evaluated new investment opportunities and worked with portfolio companies on a variety of ad hoc projects. Zach received a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, where he also worked as a Research Assistant in the Extracorporeal Life Support Research Laboratory, a joint collaboration between the Department of Surgery and the Biomedical Engineering Program.
